Chateau de Saint Cosme

Gigondas, Valbelle 2004

Grapes : 90% Grenache - 10% Syrah
Origins : Oldest vines of Saint Cosme.
Vinification : Aged for twelve months in barrels, 40% new barrels, 60% one year-old barrels

The 2004 Gigondas Valbelle is a big, rich, blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah. This wine has a sweet nose of licorice, tar, peppery roasted meats, blackberries, and cherries. It is smoky, rich, and impressively endowed. I would drink it over the next decade.

Readers should keep in mind that the young, talented proprietor Louis Barruol produces negociant wines under the label Saint-Cosme. and all the estate wines appear under the label Chateau Saint-Cosme. In theory, the only estate wines are the three cuvees of Gigondas.
